It hasn’t been the best year for Ford fans, but the passion for the Blue Oval was very much alive at the first-ever All-Ford Day held at the Newcastle Foreshore.

Despite (or because of?) being a brand-new event, it attracted more than 380 entrants from all over NSW and a few visitors from Victoria and Queensland.

The Newcastle Foreshore, where the Hunter River meets the ocean 150km north of Sydney, is a great place for a car show and everything from the Ford empire was encouraged to turn up.

If it had a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury badge on it, it was in, so enthusiasts got their jollies looking at anything from a base-spec Escort to a Ford-built truck – there aren’t too many marques that can boast variety like that!

Of course, their enduring popularity meant big numbers of Falcons and Mustangs on display, with stunning examples of just about every year and model from original 1960s survivors to modified big-grunt present-gen FPVs and right-hook Mustangs.

Aussie Falcon GTs, including one or two original Bathurst campaigners, dragged in the Ford nuts like metal shards to a magnet. The Hunter-side location of the event meant there were plenty of passers by coming in for a look, too.

There was also a good scattering of classic fast-four Fords. Ford’s RS2000 Escorts are held in high esteem by many Aussie enthusiasts, as are some of the earlier ‘dog-bone grille’ Escorts.

International rallying success means, compared to the Falcon GTs, some Escorts are somewhat under-appreciated today.

Stuck in the middle were a number of Cortinas that maybe weren’t so individually magnificent, but were a reminder to many of happy times growing up.

Add a sprinkling of Ford Sundowner panel vans and the Newcastle All Ford Day was a magnificent display of Ford’s Aussie and international heritage. With a terrific venue, almost seamless organisation and plenty of support, we can see a huge future for the Newcastle All-Ford Day.
