10 Dec 2009 | An Aussie icon, and they don't come better than this one.

Let's allow Peter to give us the good oil in his own words. Over to you Pete...

"My car is a genuine Bathurst car, one of the 150 that were produced for the XU-1’s final throw of the dice as far as the XU-1 was concerned at Bathurst. They would have won too if they hadn’t run out of petrol!

"It has all the performance mods that Harry Firth came up with for the HDT, which makes it pretty rare indeed. It has the original JP block and head and the Globe Sprintmaster wheels that make these things look so distinctive.

"It has fine spline axles, limited slip diff and the sump and diff are all baffled to stop oil starvation when pushing on through corners. Of course it has the long range 57 litre fuel tank. All the race fitment stuff is there. It even has Peter Brock’s signature on the glove box.

"I don’t drive it much any more because it is simply too valuable and when I park it I spend all my time worrying about ‘my baby’. I love it to bits.

"I would consider selling it, but there’s no big rush, I’d like to see it used a bit more to be truthful.

Every time I take it out people want to look at it and talk about it. Of course the first question that is always asked is ‘is it "genuine?’. I get lots of offers to buy it that way.

"I still get a massive kick out of driving the car when I do take it out, my favourite thing is when I am sitting in traffic. The car is very lumpy and I love the way it rocks when you are sting at the lights, feels fantastic and takes you back to the time when these things ruled the roads".
