The Valiant Charger gets my vote. If people are going to stick two fingers up at me I'd want it to be for driving a charger not a look at my pony tail, second hand Italian suit, fake rollex, cafe hopping, latie sipping...... Sorry I've was ranting I should have just said Porsche (wannabe yuppies)anyway what ever you do I'll still buy the magazine, keep up the good job guys!

My reasoning for the 911 is that it would be the perfect mate for my '81 Rolls Royce Silver Spur that I am currently restoring - the two are so different in every aspect - other than totally desirable.

Bathurst spec E55 injected, 265 front tyres 295 rears and benchmark it against a Porsche 911, GTHO and A9X and make sure it's 2 seconds a lap quicker than all of them.
Most enthusiasts see the Charger as not living up to its potential and you guys could set all that right in our world with a period correct gem with hardcore mechanicals Regards Greg.

In this day and age of fuel efficiency and investment potential I'd certainly say the 911 idea is the best. The Charger has been done by every old hoon who has the coin to do so yet how many have hot rodded a 70's Porche ? Keep it simple and light yet A/C and turbo brakes. Has to have a turbo or supercharger though or it won't be worth it, those older models are slow. Or why not a late model 3.2 or 3.6 ? No turbo needed then. Elephant Racing have all the suspension you need so get into it. Oh, and don't forget some deep dish wheels for that classic hot rod look. Time to step out of your comfort zone guys, stop building cars by the numbers and think outside the square.
Thanks, Gary Dawson.

I bought a new E49 from Sam Cali Motors in Brisbane in 1972. I read about the car in Wheels Magazine - Cyclone Super Car they called it. I had to have one. To this day the E49 is the most awesome car I have ever driven. An accelerating E49 is an experience to behold - in both sound and feel. In my opinion the best Australian muscle car. How about going a little better. Build the Charger which might have been. There was talk of a 300 cubic inch 6pack Hemi six. Or maybe the 340 six pack or even the mighty elephant 426 Hemi may have found its way between the fenders of our own Aussie Charger. The 426 Hemi found its way into A bodies States side and resulted in 11 second quarters in what was virtually a hard top Valiant. I have two boys now 16 and 21 years and the first time they saw an Aussie Charger they could not get over (in their words) "how cool is this car". I think a modern Aussie Charger with lots of brawn would be a fitting tribute to the great Aussie icon.

Hey guys the 426 Hemi Charger is big , brutal, full of Yankee grunt and shouts out "Try me if you dare". It epitimises the reason the USA do gooders forced the changes in the cube and horse power race in the 60's and 70's.
I am a cuda fan and want one with the 426 Hemi. But the Charger is the start, finish and big daddy of the American Muscle cars. Nothin more, nothin less. I want one, end of story. Graham Moir Brisbane.

Six pack Valiant Charger. Unique, classic, muscular & uncopied body styling. Its pretty hard to beat the look & sound of a nice 265 Hemi on triple webers. As someone else mentioned, porsches are for doctors & mid life crisis folk. They're a nice car - yes, but they're hardly a "unique car" just yet. Most of us might like one, but I'm not sure the majority would really enjoy the driving experience. The old charger went through a phase of being forgotten & unloved by most of Australia. Its only in recent years that people have rediscovered them and started appreciating their classic lines.

It has to be a 911! We've had many muscle cars in the past so let's offer something for the refined, cultured gentry amongst us. O. K., I'll admit, my next vote would've been the US Dodge Charger (Go the General Lee!!!) and I'm still shedding a quiet tear over the disrespect shown in the sale of your recent Pony. I would've loved that (or the XY Shaker for that matter)but to see it sold so readily... Money truly is the root of all evil! I would also love to see you do up and give away one of those big BMW saloons of the 80s or 90s or naughty 00s, or a Jag XJS convertible or a classic series II (Morse style) but I'm not fussed about the E type myself. How about a Cobra or a Ford T Bucket? Oh what the hell, I'd be happy with Burt's Trans Am! They demand a presence on the road, and...it's not all about how fast you get there. Some cars are just purely posers cars...and why not! When in Rome...(Oh, no...not a Fiat anything!!! PLEASE...NO!!!)

Valiant Charger, arguably the most beautiful Australian designed car ever. As for the model, I think the R/T has done enough, you need something different like the VJ Sportsman. Nothing captured the 70s like the Sportsman, with its radical paint and that plaid interior. Although to drive this car you will need to grow a moustache like Dennis Lillee!!

Had to vote for the porsche, as much as I love my muscle cars, I'm not really a euro lover at all. I'd love a Yankee charger with a big block, but the porsche would be a much nicer steer and the missus would let me keep it be cuase she loves 'em! I know there's ten times more of us knuckle draggers than europhiles, but we need go high-brow once in a while!
This might be unaustralian, but don't touch the Val, I've driven two and they're number one and number two of the worst handling & braking cars I've ever driven!! (Although the old 265 with triples goes like stink in a straight line!!)

Always remember the story of a young fella at the service station filling it up from near empty and kept looking under the car to see if the fuel was running out…. He couldn’t believe the amount of fuel taken to fill. Handy option would be a fuel card at today’s prices. Regards

I know I know, we gotta love our Aussie Valiant Charger, but lets face it , that big block dodge Hemi was an awsome presence, not just a muscle car. The black monster in the classic movie Bullitt, whilst not the car of choice for the good guys was perfectly cast as a worthy adversary to McQueen's Mustang!, since you've done the Tribute to the Henry, why not the Mopar?.Dave Peters TAS.

I think the charger is a better choice as far as main stream aussies are concerned, let's face it just about every aussie family has had a valiant of one sort or another. I vividly remember as an 18yr old looking for a car with attitude & took dad along to a car dealer near Kilsyth (Melb.)for a test drive of an original VH 770 Charger 265 4speed. That car was an animal & left the biggest grin on my face. Dad talked me out of it, claiming it would be cop bait. I ended up buying an LC Xu1 without his approval, but to this day still hanker for a serious Charger

I saw as a High school kid the yellow 340 at the local crossroads dealership ,as a car nut as young boys become, this car caught the imagination as the car to take on Bathurst, turned metal trim, the idea that it was an homolgation special, for some reason I imagined it to be a manual for some 35 yrs unti by chancel I became friends with that dealer principal many decades later who told me that they were all auto and that was HIS car that wasn't supposed to be sold but the salesmen & in particular his gun salesman who I also had many years later had worked with,& has many great stories of that day, in a different field, sold it on him whilst he was on holidays even though it had been put in a shed away from display. To me that car has never left my thoughts, more than any other of that era

Unique cars should not drive giveaway cars, they should be trailered to events etc, driven around for nearly a year after restored is not good, also, why does the prize value for giveaway cars differ in the small print conditions towards the back of the magazine compared to what is claimed at the front? This has happened for numerous giveaway cars, eg: the current group a giveaway says on the front cover $80k value yet the conitions says 70k total value???

Esay choice! The CHARGER. The charger is the most beautifully styled Australian built car from the 70's, bar none. Its shape has not dated. It still looks great today. Almost certainly a VH E49 tribute, with some very light modern upgrades like brakes. Stay with the 265 and triple Webers - these were iconic, and delivered plenty of horsepower (302HP). Colour should be Magenta.

Hey Charger !!!

I road tested the Valient Charger when it first hit the showroom floor. I was not impressed, mainly the driving position. I don't think I'm too mal formed but I couldn't get in sync. either to see through the driving mirror the seat had to be so close to the steering wheel I couldn't turn the wheel etc. I CHOOSE the 911 why? because I am getting on in years and it would be a good time to have a Porsche. However if you want to make an old man really happy how about these: Jaguar E type series 1 or 1960 Corvette or 1967 Corvette stingray coupe. Now my arteries are pumping!!.

Hey Charger is the ultimate Aussie icon. I bought an E49 new in 1972 from Sam Cali Motors in Brisbane. That car was the ultimate excitement machine. Listening to those Weber 45's under full throttle gave one goose bumps. Rumor has it that Chrysler may have further developed the 265 c.i. six to 300c.i.'s - imagine? So how about it? An E49 spec Charger (genuine if possible) with 300 C.I.'s. This would really add to the excitement.

They're great little cars, and one would make a good project to restore, and give a little bit more performance to. Just make sure not to crash it when giving it a good go. For sure, it'd be a delightful change, and legal to all us p-plate enthusiasts. Then again so would a six-pack charger. Although it's a little bit older.

My second choice would be an Australian assembled AMC Javelin
They are awesome but mega-expensive when first sold new in Australia.

When Jim Richards finally gets his new Javelin out on the Track ,the public will finally give them the respect they deserve and prices will skyrocket instantly.
